Authored by Rae James. The more I read and the closer I looked at the patients under my care, I could see High-Functioning Depression (HFD) was everywhere. But people couldn’t go to their doctor and ask for a diagnosis or a prescription for antidepressants for it. by Patrick O'Connor, Ph.D. It was arguably one of the best moments in the history of school counseling, and, while I cannot remember who told me about it, I am most certain it happened. A student was in a counselors office, where the topic of discussion was the students academic progress. After engaging in the customary question-and-answer round, and concluding with the bucking up counselors are known to do even when a hurricane is about to demolish the building, the student stood up, slung thei
Im generally concerned about writing with partners. Thats because the power to say what is important, to name and to categorise, to summarise and to draw out implications, happens in writing. And in the writing, power can revert back to academic researchers. Despite our best intentions. In some situations where researchers do all of the writing, research partners may not be listed as authors on a research publication at all.

As wrong as wrong can be. Of the many characteristics of authentic, effective leadership, integrity stands above them all.

I have written fairly often on the importance of words. Words matter and most of us could be a little more thoughtful when choosing the words that we use. In my opinion, life is a passion project. I just don’t really see the point of living a passionless life. I feel like this comes from a place of gratitude. I sincerely feel absolute thanks for the freedom I experience in my daily life. I recognize the gift and opportunity each and every morning presents. I just cannot imagine not looking out across the property as I open or close the gate without thankfulness.

Dr. David M. Johnson The allure of a community college presidency lies in the opportunity it affords to effect meaningful change in the lives of our students. The ability to implement strategies, remove barriers, and marshal resources to realize that aspiration is what valorizes the seat. And those who approach the work any differently rarely enjoy prolonged or notable success.
