Brewer serves as a Senior AcademicAdvisor in the Business Advisement Center. Each year, this award is presented to one undergraduate faculty advisor, one undergraduate staff advisor, and graduate advisor. Hogans is an assistant professor and BFA & BS coordinator in the theatre and dance department.
Without intelligent case management tools, it can be challenging for advisors to manage all the day-to-day actions it takes to support hundreds of students. The most collaborative institutions increased retention rates by 1-2%, while the least cooperative institutions experienced declines in similar proportions. It’s a must.
The Challenge: New student orientation course scheduling process overwhelmed students, prevented advisors from having meaningful student interactions, and made it harder to manage classroom space and observe bottlenecks in class scheduling effectively.

Following the institute’s collaborative sessions, leaders gained fresh perspectives on addressing issues hindering student retention and success. However, student feedback revealed redundancy in conversations and information sharing between advisors and coaches.
This collaborative approach made it simpler for faculty to integrate the system in their day-to-day practices and share its value to peers. They feel empowered to work together with other support staff, such as academicadvisors, mentors, and tutors, and connect students with the right resources across campus.
