Removing barriers for students to use mental health services is one of the most important goals of college administrations today particularly for students of color and diverse backgrounds. Dr. Nichole Kang College campuses have made great strides in making mental health services available to students, but access remains a critical issue.
Students are left questioning whether barriers to accessing higher education will swell and if colleges and universities will support initiatives that support their sense of belonging. We need federal policies, funding, and enforcement of laws designed to create equitable access to education to be bolstered, not reduced.
Aside from writing about the plight of Black men in higher education, in our scholarship, we have employed an anti-deficit approach to highlight critical factors that help to facilitate the access, retention, and persistence of Black men in college.
