At a time when the Latino population in the United States is growing and students are still facing daunting obstacles, Excelencia in Education is recognizing nine institutions for their clear and decisive commitment to Latino studentsuccess with the Seal of Excelencia. It enrolls roughly 43% first-generation Latino students.
This data-activated approach has resulted in Administrators knowing sooner and more precisely which students need support Studentsuccess staff working more efficiently and effectively thanks to enhanced workflow and communication capabilities.
Civitas Learning’s Texas Leadership Workshop recently brought together leaders from ten different institutions across Texas and beyond to discuss studentsuccess strategies for higher education. The traditional one-size-fits-all approach is no longer keeping up with the complex needs of today’s diverse student population.
Studentsuccess has always been a primary goal of higher education institutions. With unprecedented demographic and social changes, colleges and universities now face even more pressure to develop studentsuccess models that help students thrive academically and help institutions thrive financially.
The Challenge: General lack of visibility into students’ needs, limited methods of communication, and technology constraints, lead to inadequate access to personalized academic advising and support.

The widely accepted belief that studentsuccess is a responsibility shared by the entire campus, rather than just traditional student services, is challenging to implement. In this step, leadership teams facilitate cross-functional collaboration by establishing alignment around a shared definition of studentsuccess.
The Challenge: Confronted with plateaued student outcomes, change was needed to assess the complete student picture and have the right tools to support them holistically. By 2027, the plan aimed to boost Full-Time Enrollment by 250 students and elevate the institutional retention rate by 5%, reaching a minimum of 57.5%.
