It’s no surprise that school counselors play an important role in supporting studentmentalhealth, well-being, and academic success in K-12 schools. They are the people most engaged in programs and activities that help studentsdevelop healthy goals, mindsets, and behaviors.
Over the past decade, campus mentalhealth has bloomed into a crisis, with rates of depression and anxiety symptoms more than doubling. The COVID-19 pandemic only exacerbated the problem, with over 60% of college students meeting the criteria for at least one mentalhealth issue in the 2020-21 school year.

Ultimately, it resulted in a procedural change in terms of how it is that we did that process, how we facilitated that process, and I think ultimately resulted in some greater levels of satisfaction, which we know that satisfaction is an indicator of a student’s desire, or a student’s ability to succeed within an institution.”
