The Village at Cerritos College is California’s first community college housing project exclusively for homeless students. The Village is located near campus and provides wraparound services including case management, counseling and tutoring. All of the college’s studentservices are available in English and Spanish.
Bazan — whose term begins July 1, soon after the official transition to the new name of Union Adventist University — brings a long legacy of supporting and mentoringstudents, university leaders, and local church constituents. Yamileth Bazan will become the 30th president of Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Two of the ongoing initiatives were Hostos’s Research Center and its Mentor/Mentee Jobs on Campus program. The former gives disadvantaged students at the community college the chance to take on research project opportunities. So far, the program has served 111 students, says Amanda Nipp, Northeast’s vice president of studentservices.
By creating a simplified application with flexible deadlines and clear instructions, schools make the process more accessible and user-friendly for transfer students. By utilizing a third-party service, such as School and StudentServices (SSS) schools can assure families their financial information is handled securely and confidentially.
Mentorship and Support Programs: Academic Support: Provide academic support services, such as tutoring and counseling, to ensure the success of financial aid recipients. Social and Emotional Support: Offer social and emotional support programs to help students adjust to the private school environment and foster a sense of belonging.
These programs not only provide immediate financial relief but also serve as a long-term investment in the future of students from underserved communities. By offering academic tutoring, mentorship, and scholarship opportunities, schools help students navigate the challenges of private education and develop the skills necessary for success.
